As the Southern Song Dynasty neared its end, the nation faced turmoil from both internal strife and external threats, with foreign powers eager to invade the Central Plains. During a fierce assault on the city, Zhang Junbao, a devoted disciple of the Wuji faction, rose to the occasion, aiding General Wei Linchuan in successfully repelling the invaders and safeguarding the border. Following this heroic defense, Zhang Junbao returned to his sect to take part in the important selection ceremony for the new sect leader.
